AB13 Brassica Fodder Crops – Stewardship Seeds

Brassicas are an extremely versatile range of forage crops used across the British countryside. AB13 Brassica Fodder Crops provide foraging sites for seed-eating birds in pastoral areas where broad-leaved plants can persist in the crop and set seed.

An ever increasing pressure to reduce costs and improve productivity in agriculture has led to a growing need for farmers to look towards more home produced feeds. Forage crops, Brassica in particular, are highly productive, low input crops which can make a significant contribution to the feeding programme. These crops can be spring planted for summer and also autumn planted for winter feed. In the winter it will provide cover and feeding areas for farmland birds and other British wildlife.

Examples of AB13 Fodder Crops are:

  • Forage rape - A multi-purpose crop with excellent autumn / early winter feed potential. Forage Rapes are a high quality brassica feed with increased drought tolerance over leaf turnips, widely used in dry environments as part of finishing systems. These crops are widely used to finish lambs.
  • Kale - Known as a very adaptable crop, Kale is traditionally grown for grazing by cattle in autumn and winter. Kale crops can be cut and fed to stock in house and have a deep root system providing drought tolerance.

Our team of specialists carefully develop a large and diverse range of AB13 Brassica Fodder Crops for feed and foraging needs. From Rape / Kale Hybrid mixes that are very fast to establish and have exceptional yields to Corsa crops that have soft stems and a high leaf ratio, our selection is varied and suitable for all agricultural needs.
