Nitrogen Fixing Seeds

Nitrogen Fixing crops are able to fix nitrogen from the soil throughout its life cycle. When a nitrogen fixing plant dies, the fixed nitrogen is released back into the soil, making it available to other plants as well as helping to  fertilise the soil.

The best nitrogen fixing plants are often within the clover or legume variety. Here at Smart Seeds, we have carefully hand picked our extensive range of nitrogen fixing seeds to help look after your plants and soil. You can browse through our extensive range of nitrogen fixing seeds, including the following

  • Red clover seeds - If you are looking for a versatile nitrogen fixing seed, our specially selected red clover blend is suitable for most soil types and still possesses strong nitrogen fixing abilities. It can also help increase forage yield in both grazing and cutting scenarios, and also possesses a high protein content.
  • White clover seeds - Our white clover blend also offers versatility, being suitable for both cutting and grazing situations. If you are hoping to fix nitrogen to the sward, then we recommend purchasing white clover seeds as our blend is especially selected for this purpose, since they can be sown for overseeding an established sward.
  • Legume seeds - Our Vetch and Lucerne seeds are the perfect nitrogen fixing legume that also possess high frost tolerance. These are ideal for not only fixing nitrogen but also protecting soil from extreme weather conditions. Depending on when you’d like to plant them, you can either purchase our winter Vetch seed blend, or spring Vetch seeds

From nitrogen fixing seed mixtures that thrive in any season to those that have a high protein content, we have a nitrogen fixing seed mix perfect for you. If you have any questions regarding sowing times, seed percentages or our delivery process then our team is on hand to help. Please also see our FAQs.
