Deep Tap Root Seeds

Deep tap rooting crops have long tap roots that penetrate the soil and help reduce soil compaction. When a deep tap root plant dies, the tap root leaves a channel which helps to aerate the soil and improve soil structure.

The best deep tap root seeds often come in the form of radish varieties, as you can see within our specially handpicked range below, which includes the following:

  • Fodder radish seeds - These seeds are available from Smart Seeds in three different varieties. Firstly, nematode resistant fodder radish is ideal for use between July and December for aiding weed suppression.. Then we have organic fodder radish seeds which is a perfect green manure crop that improves soil structure. Alternatively, you can also purchase our classic fodder radish seeds which produce a highly efficient game cover crop.
  • Tillage radish seeds - These plants not only possess deep roots but also a large canopy making them ideal cover crops and highly effective weed suppressors. Tillage radish also breaks through soil compaction, improving the soil’s structure and organic matter. Please note that Tillage radish is not frost resistant like its Fodder radish counterpart, and is therefore designed to be sown between April and August, making it ideal for those warmer periods.

From deep tap root seed mixtures that thrive in warm seasons to those that have a high frost tolerance, we have a deep tap root seed mix that could be perfect for you. If you have any questions regarding sowing times, seed percentages or our delivery process then the Smart Seeds team is on hand to help. Please also see our FAQs for 24/7 information.
